If you didn’t have a senior in high school last year you may not be aware of all the changes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) went through. Needless to say it was a messy transition. Typically, the FAFSA opens up on October 1st however last year it didn’t open until December 30th, even when it opened in December there were many errors and roadblocks families had to endure. Hopefully, this year goes a little smoother but it doesn’t look like FAFSA will meet the October 1st rollout date. The experts are saying that a fully functioning FAFSA form is much more important than meeting the October 1st deadline, which I have to say I agree with. Colleges are hoping that the FAFSA releases no later than December 1st, which is two months later than the traditional release date.
During this time there will be a two-month phased rollout from October 1st to December 1st. This rollout will allow a limited number of colleges and students to be able to complete the FAFSA; information on what colleges and students will be part of this rollout has not been shared. This will help identify any technical issues before it opens to the larger public.

Here's to hoping for a smooth FAFSA season! If you would like help navigating this process and/or would like to receive updates reach out to me at info@atozeducationalconsulting.com or 612.735.1261.
